Earthquake in Nepal

Nepal suffered a very devastating earthquake on 25th April 2015 at 11.56 am. The earthquake was of a big magnitude measuring 7.9 in rector scale which shook for nearly 55 seconds continuously with more than 100 repeated quakes later that day.

Thousands of people have been killed and hundreds of thousand left homeless. We would like to report that there are no casualties among the SGI members and their families.
The NPC ground served as a relief ground for nearly 500 people living around the communities. They stayed in our garden for 4 days and nights, feeling very secured that nothing will go wrong here. They appreciated the NSGI with all their heart commenting, “We are thankful that such a great organization is situated in our community. We knew about this organization, now we know that it is such a humanistic organization.”

At first we too were lost on what we should do as this earthquake came just a few minutes before our All Leaders Training session. Then we opened the gates, calling all the panicked people into our garden and assuring them that they will be safe here. By evening, the gardens were packed with people, many women who had very small babies.

We provided masks to 600 people and first aid treatment to the needy.
Now our plan is to go to different parts of the affected areas, such as Chapagaun, Kakani, Sindhupalchok, Gorkha to name some. We are raising donations and providing 300 tents with our recourses. Members will be going there, set up the tents and move on to new locations.
Ikeda sensei has sent us the message to express his sympathy to all the members. And that it was great protection that kaikan is safe. He has been sending daimoku for us. It is great to have such a mentor.
We are praying for the safety of all the members and the people of Nepal.
Many members from all over the world are pouring messages to us. We really appreciate these warm messages in such a time of sorrow.
